Music at Holy Ghost Balham

Practices, Thursday 8:00pm - 9:00pm
Holy Ghost Church

Over the past few years the parish has developed an enviable music tradition with a full choir, music director and two organists. The main church choir is made up of parishioners who sing at the 11.30 Sunday Mass and Evening Masses on Feast Days. The choir sings many of the plainsong settings of the Mass and other music, as well as leading the congregation in hymn singing. A strong emphasis is given to singing Gregorian chant and polyphony, in line with current Vatican teaching.

Choir members range in age from their twenties to seventies and the parish Music Director, Jeremy de Satge, is always looking for new members. Choir practices are kept to a minimum, being held every Thursday evening from 8 to 9pm in the church. Previous experience is useful but not essential; and help is also given to those who do not read music well.

For further information please email Jeremy de Satgé or call 020 7207 5500.

At the 10 o'clock Family Mass an ad hoc children's choir sing a Communion Hymn which has become a much loved feature of this Mass. All children are welcome to come to the front of St. Joseph's Chapel to join in with the singing.
